Techniques for evaluating reliability are essential for designing and improving
distribution power networks. Renewable energy, distributed generation, energy storage, electric vehicles, protective device automation, and demand response systems have been significantly implemented in distribution networks
in recent years. All of these technologies contribute to the network’s reliability. The purpose of this thesis is to provide a critical evaluation of reliability
evaluation techniques used for distribution network evaluation, emphasizing
the importance of increased penetration and more extensive application of
control, protection, and communication technologies by distributed energy
resources. Detailed analysis and comparison of the various techniques and
models used for dependability evaluation will be given for each technology
and the suggestions for its implementation. A case study will demonstrate
the features and modelling method of reliability evaluation tools for modern distribution networks.
